The Hague, Netherlands | Legal Internship | 24–32 Hours/Week | Feb–July 2026

The Netherlands Red Cross has opened applications for a Legal Affairs Intern position at its headquarters in The Hague. This internship is designed for students in the final stage of their Dutch Law studies who want hands-on legal experience within a globally respected humanitarian organization.

The internship will run from 16 February to 15 July 2026 and offers exposure to civil law, privacy, governance, and international humanitarian law, all within a real-world legal working environment.

Legal Affairs Internship 2026: What to Expect

As a Legal Affairs Intern, you’ll join a small, expert legal team of four lawyers who advise the organization on a broad range of legal matters. You will work directly from the Red Cross office in The Hague, with the option of hybrid working.

This internship offers meaningful legal exposure, not observation. Interns are actively involved in ongoing legal projects that support both national and international Red Cross operations.

Key Responsibilities

During the internship, you will assist the Legal Affairs team with:

  • Drafting and assessing (international) agreements with various parties (such as ministries, partners, suppliers and other Red Cross societies);
  • Conducting legal research and preparing advice on a wide range of topics, such as compliance, contract law, privacy, association law and governance, , ;
  • Maintaining and updating legal documents, regulations and articles of association;
  • Participating in policy development and preparing internal information materials;
  • Any support with procedures (in the context of contractual relationships as well as regarding integrity issues or complaints).

This role provides broad exposure across multiple legal domains within a socially impactful setting.

Who Can Apply

The Netherlands Red Cross is looking for candidates who:

  • are pursuing a university degree in Dutch Law (preferably in the direction of civil law)
  • are analytically strong, accurate and you have a good command  of the Dutch and English language, both spoken and written;
  • work independently, but also enjoy working in a team;
  • are eager to learn, proactive and have an interest in social issues;
  • are available 3 to 4 days a week.
