The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Thiruvananthapuram has invited applications for the post of Project Scientist I under a Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India–funded research project. This opportunity is aimed at highly qualified researchers with expertise in optical imaging, biomedical engineering, physics, and advanced instrumentation.

Project Overview

The selected candidate will work on the externally funded research project titled:

“Development of multimodal optical coherence tomography–ultrasound MEMS technology-based microscopic-resolution photoacoustic elastography (OCT-US-MEMS-uPAE) imaging system: a validation study for ophthalmic diagnosis and therapeutic treatments.”

The project focuses on next-generation biomedical imaging systems with direct applications in ophthalmic diagnosis and therapy, combining OCT, ultrasound, MEMS, and photoacoustic elastography into a single multimodal platform.

Fellowship / Salary

  • ₹56,000 per month + HRA

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Educational Qualification

(as prescribed by the funding agency)

  • Doctoral Degree in Science, OR

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized university or equivalent

Desirable Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Physics, OR

  • Master’s Degree in:

    • Instrumentation

    • Computer Engineering

    • Electrical / Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE)

    • Medical Physics

    • Engineering Physics

Candidates with interdisciplinary backgrounds aligned with imaging systems, biomedical instrumentation, or applied physics will be given preference.

Age Limit

  • Less than 35 years as on the last date of application

Selection Process

  • Shortlisting based on qualification and relevant research experience

  • Interview details will be communicated via email to shortlisted candidates

  • Final selection by an institute-level Selection Committee

No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.
