The position is expected to pay $20 per hour, with interns working between 150 and 200 hours over a minimum of 10 weeks between June and August.

About the Internship
The Summer 2026 Collections Internship offers hands-on experience in museum collections management. The intern will work closely with the museum’s Curator of Collections and focus on historic accessories from the eighteenth through twentieth centuries.
Items in the collection include shoes, fans, hats, gloves, parasols, and other historic objects. The internship provides practical experience in research, documentation, preservation, and exhibition preparation within a professional museum setting.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will:

Conduct research on historic accessories, identifying creators, date ranges, materials, and historical context

Create object records in PastPerfect, the museum’s collections management system

Document object details including provenance, location, and identifying features

Label and rehouse items in archival-quality containers to support long-term preservation

Assess and document the condition of objects and assist with preservation efforts when needed

Select an item for an “Object of the Month” mini-exhibition

Write exhibit text for a public audience and develop a related social media post

Support additional collections management tasks as required
The internship is designed to provide experience in research, preservation, documentation, and public interpretation.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

Be a resident of the state of New Jersey

Be enrolled in a New Jersey university

Be a recent graduate of a New Jersey university
Applicants should be graduate students, advanced undergraduate students, or recent graduates in Museum Studies, History, Public History, or a related field.
Coursework in collections management is preferred. Experience with PastPerfect or a similar collections management system is also preferred but not required.
Candidates should be detail-oriented, able to work independently and collaboratively, and possess strong communication skills.
Schedule and Compensation
The internship is expected to run between June and August and requires a commitment of 150 to 200 hours over at least 10 weeks.
Pending grant funding, the position will pay $20 per hour.
