Internship Overview
The Congressional Relations & Social Impact Intern will join a fast-paced advocacy team working to advance the National Partnership’s health and economic justice priorities in Congress and with corporate partners. Interns are fully integrated into day-to-day operations and gain practical experience essential for careers in policy, advocacy, and public affairs.
This internship runs from June through early August 2026, with flexible start and end dates set prior to the first day.
Key Responsibilities
Interns support legislative and advocacy efforts through research, writing, and policy tracking. Responsibilities include monitoring congressional activity, attending or watching hearings, drafting summaries and correspondence, and preparing materials for meetings with members of Congress and business leaders.
Interns also assist with managing congressional tracking systems, compiling media and policy news clips, drafting corporate meeting briefs, and supporting coalition work. Opportunities to attend Capitol Hill briefings, coalition meetings, and events with the Business Working Group for Gender Equity are a core part of the experience.
Skills & Qualifications
Successful candidates bring strong writing, communication, research, and computer skills, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently. A high level of organization, initiative, and interest in gender equity and the federal legislative process is essential.
The program is best suited for rising seniors, graduate students, or recent graduates who are eager to work full-time or close to full-time in a professional policy environment.
Pay & Work Schedule
This is a paid internship, compensated at the District of Columbia minimum wage of $17.95 per hour.
Interns are expected to work 26–37.5 hours per week, primarily during standard business hours (Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. ET). While reduced schedules may be considered for students with academic commitments, interns must maintain a consistent weekly schedule.
Location & Work Format
This is a hybrid internship based in Washington, DC. Interns must be located in the DC/DMV area and able to commute to the Washington, DC office at least two times per month for scheduled in-person workdays. The role is not fully remote.
Interns will have access to office computers on in-person days and are expected to use their own computer while working remotely. Alternative arrangements may be made if needed.
