The Public Health Institute (PHI) has officially announced applications for the Cannabis Policy Advocacy Intern Summer 2026 position. The part-time opportunity will run from March 2, 2026, to June 30, 2026, and is open to eligible youth participants in California. Selected interns may work remotely or from PHI’s Berkeley office and will receive paid, mentored experience in public health policy, youth advocacy, and communications.

The intern will help improve California’s Local Cannabis Policy Scorecards and support youth-focused advocacy efforts across communities.
What You Will Work On
During the internship, you will actively support real public health initiatives rather than just observe. Key responsibilities include:

Organizing listening sessions with Elevate Youth California (EYC) participants

Gathering ideas from youth advocates to improve policy awareness

Designing engagement tools such as briefs, videos, or creative content

Creating social media posts about cannabis policy scorecards

Assisting local youth groups in using scorecards for community advocacy

Collaborating with PHI staff on outreach and project activities
You may also suggest a small project of your own related to public health advocacy.
Eligibility Requirements
Minimum Requirements

Age between 18 and 26 years

Active participant in an Elevate Youth California (EYC) program for at least 2 months

High school graduate

Ability to work around 10 hours per week
