The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) invites applications for its prestigious 2026 Summer Internship Program based in New York City. Applications opened today, January 26, 2026. This ten-week internship opportunity is designed for students, recent graduates, and beginning museum professionals seeking practical and theoretical training in museum practices within one of the world's most influential cultural institutions.

Internship Overview

The internship is located in New York City and runs for a duration of 10 weeks (June through August 2026).

• Stipend: Each intern will earn a stipend of $6,160 for the 10-week program.

• Schedule: The standard schedule is Monday–Thursday, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. (Summer internships require a commitment of at least four days per week).

• Housing: Interns are responsible for arranging their own accommodations, though MoMA provides resources to assist in the search.

Eligibility and Academic Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria at the time of application:

• Be a current student, recent college graduate, graduate student, or beginning museum professional.

• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study by the start of the internship (i.e., rising junior status).

• International students are eligible to apply.

• Note: High school students are not eligible for this program.

2. Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts are accepted.

3. One Letter of Recommendation: From a professor, employer, or internship coordinator (Family members or friends are not accepted).

4. Essay (Max 650 words): The essay must answer the following prompt:

   • Why are you interested in participating in an internship at The Museum of Modern Art? In your response, be sure to address both:

     • The role of museums and how you envision their potential for evolution

     • An individual or experience that has influenced your perception of the arts

Selection Process

Due to the high volume of applications, MoMA does not conduct informational interviews.

• Select candidates will be contacted to schedule a virtual interview after the application review.

• Candidates are typically notified of their status by late April.
