The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) has officially launched the Visiting Professor Call for Applications for the academic year 2026/27. The programme supports the University’s international strategy by inviting qualified foreign Professors and Researchers to contribute to teaching and academic collaboration within its Master’s, Single-Cycle Master’s, and Doctoral programmes.

This funded opportunity is designed to strengthen international academic exchange and enhance teaching quality across departments. Selected Visiting Professors will deliver courses or seminars in English while building research links that may continue beyond the visiting period.

Who Can Apply

The call is open to foreign Professors and Researchers holding or having held positions equivalent to Full Professor, Associate Professor, or Researcher at recognised universities or public or private research centres.

Applications must be submitted through Unimore Departments, which will collect and prioritise proposals before sending them to the International Relations Office.

Deadline: March 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

Types of Visiting Positions

Selected scholars may participate under one of the following formats during the 2026/27 academic year:

Short-Term Visiting Professor (30 days)
Long-Term Visiting Professor (60 or 90 days)
Full-Term Visiting Professor (One semester with assigned teaching subject)

Short- and long-term visitors must deliver at least 12 hours of teaching per month or conduct a minimum of four seminars per month.

Full-term Visiting Professors will be assigned an official course and are required to remain at the Department during the semester in which lectures and exams take place.

Funding and Remuneration

The programme provides competitive financial support.

Short-Term (30 days)
Full Professor: approx. €4,500 gross per month
Associate Professor: approx. €3,600 gross per month
Researcher: approx. €2,700 gross per month

Long-Term (60–90 days)
Full Professor: approx. €3,700 gross per month
Associate Professor: approx. €3,000 gross per month
Researcher: approx. €2,200 gross per month

Full-Term (Semester)
Full Professor: approx. €15,000 gross total
Associate Professor: approx. €12,000 gross total
Researcher: approx. €10,000 gross total

The remuneration includes taxes, travel expenses, accommodation costs, visa-related fees if applicable, insurance, and all contractual charges. Payment is made monthly.

Required Documents

Each application must include:

  • Curriculum Vitae with five key publications from the past five years or major international conference participation
  • A detailed teaching plan linked to a specific degree programme
  • Department approval form
  • Consent for personal data processing

Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a University Committee appointed by Rectoral Decree. Evaluation is based on:

  • Academic profile and achievements
  • Relevance to the proposed teaching activities
  • Quality of the planned visit
  • Expected impact on the Department
  • Potential for long-term academic collaboration

A minimum score of 18 out of 30 is required for funding eligibility.

Successful applicants will receive formal notification by email.

After the Visit

At the end of the stay, Visiting Professors must submit a report outlining teaching activities completed and any research collaborations initiated. If assigned duties are not fully carried out, the remuneration will be reduced accordingly.

Accommodation support and practical guidance are provided by the University’s International Welcome Desk for both Modena and Reggio Emilia campuses.
