The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) in the Eastern Cape has formally announced a new intake under its 2026 Graduate Recruitment Scheme, Graduate Internship Programme, and Student Internship / Work Integrated Learning Programme. The programmes form part of the Provincial Vacancy Circular 08 of 2025/26 and are aimed at structured skills development, professional registration support, and workplace exposure across technical, professional, and administrative disciplines. Overview of the 2026 DPWI Training Programmes

The 2026 intake covers graduate training, graduate internships, technical internships, and student internships, with placements across multiple centres in the Eastern Cape, including Bhisho, East London, Gqeberha, Mthatha, Queenstown, Mount Ayliff, and Aliwal North.

All opportunities are offered with a monthly stipend and are aligned with nationally recognised professional and occupational standards.

Graduate Recruitment Scheme (48 Months)

The Graduate Recruitment Scheme is a four-year structured programme designed to support professional registration with statutory councils. Participants are placed in technical fields linked directly to built-environment professions.

Key Requirements

  • National Senior Certificate

  • Relevant National Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Degree

  • Mandatory registration as a Candidate with the applicable professional council (such as SACPCMP, SACQSP, SACAP, SACPLAN, SACPV, SAGC/SAGI, or AIIDP)

  • South African citizenship

  • Valid driver’s licence

Graduate Internship Programme (24 Months)

The Graduate Internship Programme provides structured workplace exposure for diploma and degree holders in corporate, financial, legal, communication, ICT, and governance functions within the department.
