University of Warsaw Announces Fully Funded Scholarship for Migration & Labour Market Research (OPUS 29 Project)

Warsaw, Poland — The Centre of Migration Research at the University of Warsaw, with the consent of the Rector and under the leadership of Dr Sara Bojarczuk, has officially announced a scholarship competition for one research position under the NCN OPUS 29 funded project titled:

“Discrimination in the Labour Market in the New Destination Country of Migration: A Study Using Mixed Methods (LabMad)”

This 36-month interdisciplinary research project is financed by the National Science Centre (NCN), Poland, and focuses on understanding how discrimination shapes recruitment and employment outcomes for migrants in Poland’s labour market.

About the LabMad Research Project

The LabMad project critically examines employers’ preferences and recruitment mechanisms across different industries in Poland. A unique contribution of this study is its focus on labour market intermediaries, whose influence in Poland is significant but under-researched.

The project also investigates how migrants experience, navigate, and respond to discriminatory practices, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods to deliver policy-relevant insights.

Scholarship Position Overview

Selected candidates will work in an international and research-intensive academic environment, actively contributing to high-impact publications and conferences.

Key Responsibilities

The scholarship holder will:

• Collaborate with the Principal Investigator on the theoretical and conceptual framework of the project

• Collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data

• Conduct interviews, transcriptions, and document analysis

• Use research software such as STATA and Atlas.ti

• Co-author scientific articles in high-ranked international journals

• Present research findings at national and international conferences

• Combine project duties with work on a doctoral thesis related to migration

Eligibility & Requirements

Applicants must:

• Meet the NCN scholarship eligibility criteria (§ 3(3) of NCN regulations)

• Have fluent spoken and written English

• Demonstrate interest in migration, labour markets, or discrimination research

• Possess skills (or willingness to train) in quantitative and qualitative analysis

• Have a record of scientific publications

Additional Advantage:

• Fluency in spoken and written Polish
