The Urban Justice Center (UJC) invites applications for a Development & Communications Internship based in the Central Office. This part-time internship opportunity is designed for students, recent graduates, or individuals with relevant experience who are seeking practical experience in non-profit management, public relations, fundraising, and communications within a social justice framework.

This internship provides hands-on experience in managing development and communications administrative tasks while enabling interns to support the execution of events, fundraisers, and campaigns.

About the Urban Justice Center (UJC)

The Urban Justice Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to social justice, advocacy, and serving vulnerable communities. The Central Office coordinates development and communications efforts to support the organization's broader mission. The team focuses on accelerating public relations, marketing, research, and communication goals to enhance the organization's impact.

Internship Overview

The internship acts as a support role for the development team and is expected to run through the spring and summer until the end of August (flexible). Ideally, the candidate will start as soon as possible.

This is a paid internship position with a rate of $15/hr. The role requires a commitment of approximately 3-8 hours per week, with a preference for a longer-term commitment and continuation if mutually desired.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will support the Development and Communications team through a range of operational and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:

Supporting the management and execution of the weekly newsletter through research

Creating engaging social media content, including:

  • Researching trends
  • Writing captions
  • Designing assets
  • Scheduling posts across platforms
  • Managing the CRM/donor platform (DonorPerfect), including data entry and organization
  • Conducting general industry or in-house research
  • Supporting pitch deck development and partnership outreach
  • Providing administrative support for the execution of events, fundraisers, and campaigns
  • Undertaking additional administrative tasks as assigned

Eligibility and Academic Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:

  • Be a current undergraduate or graduate student
  • Be a recent graduate
  • Possess equivalent or relevant experience

Note: Applicants must have U.S. work authorization.

Required Skills and Competencies

Applicants should demonstrate the following technical and professional skills:

Proficiency in:

  • Google Suite and Microsoft Excel
  • Social Media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn)
  • Research methodologies

Desirable Skills (A Plus):

  • Graphic design experience (Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Experience with databases and CRM systems

Professional Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated interest in social justice, non-profit management, and development
  • Proactive approach with the ability to propose next steps
  • Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and a sense of humor
